Hi! Welcome! I’m April.
I’m in the latter half of my twenty-something phase. I’m originally from Texas, but I’ve been fortunate to live in several places (Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and the UK for two summers). I have two cats (Oakley and Oscar) and they’re awesome. They keep me on my toes and laughing. I recently graduated from law school. It was three of the craziest years of my life!
After law school, I was fortunate enough to find a job (not an easy thing in that economy) as a software trainer. I currently work as a training developer for a company in Nashville, Tennessee. When I’m not at work, on a plane, in an airport, or in a hotel, I split my time between a possible addiction to television (I won’t even try to list the shows I watch), designing websites that I don’t use, reading books about far away places and the people who visit them, and Twitter (I think I have a problem…). I also enjoy cooking and baking and have occasional dreams of opening a mini-cake shop (that would be a shop for small cakes, not a small shop of cakes!) in Seattle.
Things I love (in no particular order)
- Taking a nap when it’s sunny outside and reading in a chair when it’s raining.
- That feeling when you step off a plane, out of a train, off the subway, out of a cab into a new place.
- Sister Hazel
- Color-coding anything and everything.
- Reorganizing my closet.
- Reckless Kelly
- Jamming out in the car by myself.
- Waking up to a cat in my face.
- The smell and sound of Christmas.
- Macaroni and cheese.
- Craig Ferguson
- Getting a card in the mail.
- Steamed broccoli and carrots.
I am crazy in love with travel and art (obviously!). Beyond those two, I really love sports (although, it should be noted I don’t play many … okay any … besides swimming). My favorite sports to follow are tennis, soccer (MLS, US Men and Women, and some European), baseball, cycling, golf, football, and swimming/diving. It can get kind of crazy sometimes!
I’m also really into social media and website design. In 2011, I launched a social media and web design company with one of my best friends, Rebekah (Stellata Collective). We focus on creating meaningful and effective digital spaces for artists online. I also launched a freelance copyediting service (Edititrix-in-Charge) in early 2012 to help digital entrepreneurs produce clean, powerful, and coherent written products and copy. I love photography and hope to one day use it as a source (however small) of passive income.
My travel story got a bit long, so I moved it to it’s own page here.
